In this post, I want to share with you the 4 C’s to a clean and clear space. I’m working on my organizing bathroom vanity and I wanted to take you along with me! I know it can seem daunting to declutter and get things organized in your home, I feel the same way too. But if you put on some good music, a podcast, or audiobook, or even Facetime a friend while you’re going through everything, the project can actually feel a little easier! Ready? Let’s get started!
1| Cut
You need to cut first. Take things out you are no longer using. Consider keeping some items for gifts, if they haven’t been opened.
Toss items that are expired.
I found this guide on google:
Mascara – 3 months.
Liquid Foundation and Concealer – 6 to 12 months.
Cream Blush and Eyeshadow – 6 to 12 months.
Powder Blush and Eyeshadow – 1 year.
Eyeliner and Lipliner Pencils – Up to 2 years.
Liquid Eyeliner – 6 months or less.
Lipstick – 1 year.
Moisturizers and Skin Care – 1 to 2 years.
Another way to keep track of expiry dates is to add a sticker for date opened/date to throw away. For everything that’s current, I found this website http://checkcosmetic.net/ where you can a lot of different brands with batch info to check if it’s expired.

At this point, we’re not getting the money back. One of my toughest things to wrap my mind around is how much of a waste of money all this was. No matter how long I keep it, I’m not getting my money back. It’s already spent. It’s better to just remove it to at least have space.
2| Categorize
When you are organizing your bathroom vanity, categorizing is important because when it’s easy to find something, your day is just a little bit better.
If you’re looking for an item it’s going to be with its mates, similar items. So if you’re looking for a hair product, you aren’t going to dig in face care. Or makeup. All the hair products are together and easy to find what you’re looking for.
I had some things categorized together that shouldn’t have been. As I was going through everything, I rearranged and recategorized some items to make the different sections function so much better.
3| Contain
The magic of organizing. We’ve all seen the beautiful after photos of clear containers lined up perfectly with the pretty labels.
In reality, sometimes we can’t do that. Sometimes we have to work with what we have. And be okay with that.
Organizing bins can run up to $40 per bin, depending on what you’re looking for. I can’t bring myself to pay that, no matter how cute they are.
I have found great containers at Costco, Michaels, TJ Maxx, Fred Meyer, Target, and the Dollar Store. I’m sure there are many other places that sell cute containers for a fair price.
I do want to mention that for today’s video I’m just reusing what I already have and try to make it work a lot better.
4| Clean the bathroom vanity
If you have time, clean out the area that you are organizing. It’s always best to start with a clean workspace.
I will usually vacuum first. This gets all the dust and small items out of there.
Today, I used an all-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth to wipe it down.
I also wiped all of the containers too. So if you’re reusing yours like I did, go ahead and wipe the interior of your containers.
As I was cleaning, I decided to spruce up the drawers and my side of the vanity too! I had extra removable wallpaper leftover from a different project that I’m going to add into the drawers and down in the cabinet to make it a little bit brighter in there. It turned out so cute!
Normally I would’ve added contact paper, but I only had a bright pink, and I didn’t want that bright of a color in there.

5| Classify
Classify….another term for label! If you want to take things one step further, you can label all the different categories of items. This makes it easy for you to find and put things away. It also makes it easy for others to find things and put them away.
No excuses at this point!
