I can’t believe how fast the holidays went! Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, all flew by… and of course, all my routines and habits flew out the window too. But now the kids are back in school and I kind find my groove again. I always feel like it takes a little while for me to transition back into routines and making sure that everything flows day to day. Of course, there are still days when we are rushing out the door!
I’m having such a love/hate relationship with this month though. It’s January of 2020. I feel like everyone has made a big deal (myself included) about how this is not only the start of a new year, but also a new decade, I feel such an enormous pressure to make sure that I don’t screw it up! To be honest this pressure is almost making me feel paralyzed because I don’t want to make the wrong move. How about you? How are you feeling about the new year?
In this post, I want to share with you a few things I’m doing this first quarter of the new year, to make sure that I’m on track with my goals and maintaining the house!
1| Morning routines
This is such a tough one because I’ve always felt like I’m more of a night owl than a morning person. As I get older (shhh!) I’m drifting towards earlier nights (like trying to sleep by 10:30 pm) and waking up earlier (like 5:30 pm).
This gives me around 7 hours of sleep, so it’s not too little but not too much. My main goal for fitness is to exercise first thing in the morning and get it out of the way and still have time to get ready.
I’ve always wanted to be one of those people that were up and ready for the day, not one that looks like they just got dragged out of bed (which has been my usual go-to! haha!)
My morning routine will be looking like this:
5:30 – 5:45: Wake up and get out of bed
5:45 – 6:00: Journal
6:00 – 6:45: Exercise
6:45 – 7:00: post workout smoothie
7:00 – 7:45: Get ready!
After 7:45 it’s time to kick it into mom-gear and get the girls ready for school.
I really feel like this will take a lot of workout anxiety off my shoulders since it’s done first thing in the morning. Another thing too is that I am able to exercise on an empty stomach, which is supposed to help blast fat! I wanted to create a routine that set my mind right for the rest of the day.
2|Cleaning routines
The dreaded cleaning routine! I swear the last few weeks of 2019, cleaning just went down the tube. I even contemplated hiring a maid just to kick me off in the right direction. But don’t worry, I didn’t! I sucked it up and got the first floor done on Tuesday!
This routine is actually changing a little bit. I’m trying to find new ways to get my cleaning done during my cleaning hour. IShe even helps me out for about 15 minutes!
So as you know from how I clean, and if you don’t you can read this post on how I clean, I have to complete a room each time I do clean. The thing about being productive is producing results. At the end of the time I’ve scheduled for myself, I’m walking away from a clean room.
3| Goals
Here’s another thing I have a love/hate relationship with! GOALS! I feel like I’ve had the same goals for years! WHY?!
Maybe I’ve never had enough determination to hit them, so they have just been lingering? Maybe they’re just too lofty? I’m going to take a new look at the goals I’ve set and see if they still work for me and my life now.
For this first quarter, I’m concentrating on fitness and health and getting our budget under control. On the business side, I’m going to focus on the new planner. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check it out here!
4| No spending challenge
I’m going to be honest with you, Christmas, traveling and just living, my spending has gotten out of hand! A lot of it isn’t big items either. It’s little things here and there that I buy completely out of impulse that I know I don’t really need. All those $5 and $10 items add up so quickly. So for the month of January, I’m not buying anything we don’t really need. I know it’s going to be really hard but I have to start somewhere right?
Are you with me?!
What are some of the routines that you are working towards this new year? I would love to know in the comments below!
