Organizing Under the Kitchen Sink | Kitchen Cabinet Organization

The cabinet under my kitchen sink was a cave of wonders.

I thought the cabinet under the sink was organized in a sense that everything had a spot but that was the problem. EVERYTHING had a spot.

Steps to kitchen cabinet organization

1| Remove Everything

The first thing I had to do after getting myself motivated was take everything out. The interior of the cabinets is a mediumy mapley brown color so it isn’t the brightest space. I wanted to add contact paper and a rolling drawer system. Those would only work if everything was cleared!

2| Put down contact paper

I wanted to add a pop of brightness and/or pattern to the cabinet by using contact paper. I found the one I used here from the Dollar Store. One roll was enough to cover the width of the cabinet. It didn’t quite reach all the way to the back, but hey, I’m not that picky and the front is where everything was, so that’s what mattered to me.

3| Install drawer system

We purchased our drawer system from Costco for $19.99 (plus tax). I love that it moves so smoothly and corrals all the cleaners together and is two levels. I can put the stuff I access more frequently on the top. My awesome hubby installed this for me 😉 and it took him seriously less than 10 minutes. It looked super simple to install..or he could just be that good!

4| Determine what NEEDS to be in the space

I took a bunch of stuff out that didn’t need to be in the cabinet. In there was a three tiered organizer, cleaning solution for the carpet cleaner, and dishwasher items that we no longer used. This time around I knew I didn’t want to always be reaching into the back for things. I wanted 95% of what’s under the sink to be right up front, all with easy access.

5| Reuse Containers

Whenever you’re organizing or re-organizing, you want to spend THE LEAST amount possible right?! There were a couple of empty storage containers that I thought would be perfect to hold sponges and our dishwasher tablets.

I found a clear dish that I had from Emmy’s party that was in our cabinet that ended up working perfectly for the sink strainer and stop.

There was a bin that I had in the cabinet before that I reused to corral my cleaning toothbrush, towel, and magic eraser.

And voila! A newly organizing space that is brighter, easy to get into and pull things out of, and we can’t forget how pretty it is!
