In fact, I created a video tutorial that you can watch below!

1| Create a Canva account

For this tutorial, you’ll need to create a free Canva account.

It’s super easy, don’t worry! Head to www.canva.com and sign up.

Once your account is created, you’ll want to create a new design, and search for “US Letter” and select that.

2| Decide your cash envelope size

The size I used for this tutorial was 3.5″ by 7″. That way the envelope is slightly larger than cash dimensions but not too much bigger.

But this size can vary based on how you are going to store your envelopes. If you want to put them in a wallet, I would measure the opening just to make sure that they’ll fit!

3| Create the envelope shapes

There are a few different parts to the cash envelope.

The main rectangle is 3.5″ by 7″.

For the bottom flap I used a 3″ by 7″ rectangle. And the top flap, I used a 1″ by 7″ rectangle.

The side flaps were 3.3″ by 0.6″ rectangles.

I also created a center box to house the envelope category.

4| Add a pretty background

You can keep your envelope plain and be done at this point or you can add a little design!

I added a grid to the center envelope body (the side flaps don’t need a design) and added a pattern image. You can customize your image to whatever you like!

Or you can keep is black and white, if you want to save ink!

5| Add your budget category

If you don’t want to write out all your categories, you can add text to you category rectangle customize the font you would like to use. The “free” fonts are the ones without the crown, so those are the options you would want to select from.

The categories I have are:

  • Groceries
  • Household
  • Fun
  • Clothing
  • Girls
  • Max
  • Misc
  • Health/Beauty

6| Download the envelope template to your computer!

After you’re finished, you’ll want to download the file to your computer as a PDF Print!

You’ll cut out the perimeter of the of the envelope and fold on the dotted lines. Then you can either tape or glue the side flaps!
