3 Ways Your Current Cleaning Routine isn’t working and how to clean your way through it!

1| You’re not actually following through on your schedule and being consistent

Planning and mapping things out theoretically is the easy part, right? It’s easy to bust out the planner and write down days you’re going to clean, get the checklists and and ideal schedule mapped out. But the hard part is the actual cleaning!

Getting motivated to clean and then physically doing it is another story! We talk ourselves out of it saying there’s other things that must be done, things that we would rather do, or saying we’ll just get it done next time.

The thing is, if you stay consistent with the cleaning, it’s actually easier and faster to get through because there isn’t as much dust that has settled, there isn’t as much grime stuck onto things, and so on.

Whenever you start and then wait 3 or 4 weeks is when it gets harder to clean. Then when it takes more time and energy, that’s when we get overwhelmed and give up!

To fix this, map out your cleaning schedule for every 2 weeks. This will give you a great clean but not make you feel like you’re cleaning all the time. When you say that you’re cleaning on Monday, stick to your word and clean on Monday. No matter what. It’s in stone. It’s a priority. All you have to do is follow through.

2| How to clean when you feel overwhelmed with cleaning

There are so many reasons why cleaning can feel so overwhelming. We’ll go through a few and how to fix them.

It’s because there’s too much to do and not enough time

We’ve overpacked our schedule and looking at this endless to do list it feels like there’s just too much to do and we’ll never get it done, so we don’t even try, right?

You need to take some time and go through your weekly calendar and see if you can break your cleaning schedule into more bite size pieces. You can spread it out over more days or add in an extra week to cycle through.

Not enough maintenance done in between cleanings.

When there isn’t enough maintenance in between cleanings and your cleanings are spread over several weeks at a time, it feels like every time you clean is the first time. The first time getting into a routine is the hardest step because you haven’t done it before.

When you wait too long then everything starts building back up and you have to start from square one again. The more you can maintain, the easier the deeper cleaning will be and the less time it will take. You won’t have to scrub as hard, or as many times, etc.

3| How to clean when you don’t have a routine and don’t know where to start

Imagine you are just staring into your kitchen, dining room, living room, and everywhere you look there are just piles of stuff, dishes everywhere, toys everywhere, things just strewn about. OH MY!

There is just too much to do that we get frozen because we don’t know where to start. There is stuff to do everywhere we look!

That’s where your checklists all come into play to help a sista out! When you have your guide and the basic flow of cleaning under your belt, you can be thrown in any room and know how to get started.

The first thing you may consider doing before the actual cleaning, is to de-clutter! That should always be your pre-step. The less “junk” you have on your countertops, tabletops, and floors, the easier it will be to clean when it comes time to clean.
