Today I’m sharing with you how to fold t-shirts! It was not long ago ( a few years now) I used to fold my shirts and stack them one on top of another… gasp! This led to so many problems
- I couldn’t see which shirt was where
- I ended up with a pile of unfolded shirts in my drawer because I was rifling through all of them! Picture the t shirt section at any store. The employees always have to come back through and refold the shirts because of the mess that’s constantly created!
If you are a stacker (not slacker ;)), let me tell you, there’s nothing wrong with that. But let me just share with you a different way, that might just make your life a little bit easier….
Let me introduce to you, the filing method! What is this method you might ask?
Instead of putting shirts one on top of another, you are putting the shirts one in front of the other!
When we moved into this house, and still periodically, we go through our clothes to make sure that what we have in our closet, are actually items that we are going to wear or have worn recently.
I used to cram so many of Justin’s t-shirts in his drawer that it got so heavy it bowed down. You don’t realize it but a stack of t-shirts is so heavy! There were probably at least 3 different stacks. Who knows when he actually wore the shirts all the way on the bottom right?!
The easiest way to get a perfect and uniform fold every single time is to have a tool to help you! Let me introduce to you the Flip and Fold.
Ta da!
HERE ARE THE BEST WAYS TO FOLD T-SHIRTS
How to Fold T-Shirts if you have a flip and fold
- Put shirt face down and center it. Make sure that the top of the collar lines up with the top of the board.
- Fold in one sleeve
- Fold in the second sleeve. You may have to fold in the sleeve one more time.
- Depending on how deep your drawers are, you might have to make a little pre fold on the bottom. I have to fold ours in about an inch just to get the fold in line with the bottom of the flip and fold.
- Fold the t shirt in half
- Fold in half one more time
How can you achieve this beautiful folded t-shirt if you don’t have a flip and fold?
- Grab a cardboard box that’s laying around (I know you have Amazon boxes laying around your house too!)
- Ready for the secret dimensions? The width of each panel of the flip and fold is 9 inches and the length is 12 inches. Tape 6 panel pieces together (or 2-9″x 12″ pieces and 2-9″x 24″)
- Again, lay the shirt face down
- Fold in one sleeve
- Repeat on second sleeve
- Bring in bottom a little (about an inch or so)
- Fold shirt in half and then half again
Whether you have the flip and fold or not, achieving a perfectly folded t-shirt is completely achievable on a daily basis. This also helps your closet look more uniform and less visually cluttered. So, remember when you are filing, you can always see which shirt you are picking out so don’t leave a mess behind!
