Clean With Me | Clean the Bathroom Edition

In this post, I would love for you to clean with me I will walk you step-by-step through the process of how I would clean the bathroom, specifically my Powder Room.

The reason why I chose this room is that it’s a smaller space. I can go through it pretty quickly. You can clean your powder room quickly and would be the same way. If you don’t have a powder room just do your normal bathroom but the idea is the same.

Pre-cleaning Task

If you have anything in the bathroom that doesn’t belong, the first thing to do before any cleaning is to grab a basket or a box and get it out of there!

1| High and Low Dusting

Purpose: The purpose of high and low dusting is to remove any cobwebs that are up high and to dust the top of the baseboards. You will be surprised at how much dust can settle here and it’s a spot many people forget to clean!

So the first thing that we want to do is get your duster and my favorite is the Swiffer Duster with the extendable wand. This is so I can reach the corners of the ceiling without having to get on a step stool and get the baseboards without having to bend over. I’m 5’6″ and our ceilings on our first floor are 9ft, I can still reach the corners pretty easily.

What you want to do is pick a starting point that you will use over and over. My start is always at a doorway. It just helps me remember. Since I am left-handed I tend to start moving from left to right. If you are right-handed or left-handed and want to move the other way around feel free to do so but that is just the way my body works!

So what I’m going to do is start at the top corner and dust across. When I finished the top, I bring my duster down to get the top of the baseboard with the duster. That’s one section. Next, I move on to the next wall dust the top corner and across, then dust the baseboard. The third wall, the same thing, dust the top corners then dust the baseboard behind the toilet and behind the sink. Finally, is the last wall where the door is. I do the top of the door frame and then the bottom where the baseboard is.

Keep your duster out because we still have the vent and light fixtures. We’re going to use the Swiffer Duster to dust those as well. I do the vent and then I will just our light fixture above the sink.

2| Disinfecting The Toilet

Purpose: To get rid of those yucky germs!

After dusting, I will spritz the sink, the step stools, and the toilet with disinfectant and put the toilet cleaner in the bowl. This lets the cleaners do their magic (soak and sanitize/disinfect!). Usually, you need to wait a few minutes for the cleaners to work properly so I use this time to dust the shelves, the picture frame and then the mirror.

3| Dusting

Purpose: Now we’re working at arms reach and eye level.

Before dusting, I will spray Pledge or Endust (whichever one I get at the store, no preference really) on a microfiber cloth. I will also spray glass cleaner on a glass microfiber cloth. That way they’re ready to go for me.

I will dust the shelves above the toilet and all the items on display, starting at the top and moving down.

Next, I wipe down the picture frame with the polish around the frame and glass cleaner in the center.

After that, I will spray the mirror with glass cleaner and wipe from top to bottom. Using that same microfiber cloth I wipe the towel holder and the toilet paper holder for a spotless shine!

4| Ready to Scrub?

Purpose: Cleaning and shining take elbow grease. But the end result is awesome!

At this point, we have the sink/faucet, toilet, and floors left. Let’s start at the sink.

I will re-spray the faucet, sink, and in our case, the base, with the cleaner to re-wet the surface. I will use a new microfiber cloth to wipe and shine the faucet. Next, move on to the sink. We have sticky fingers and small people in our house so I have to squat to make everything eye level to make sure that I’ve gotten everything. Then finish the base of the sink.

Next is the toilet! I will re-spray the toilet just like I did the sink. If you’re a person that’s a stickler for germs and bacteria, then I would suggest using a paper towel to clean the toilet. That way you can just throw it away afterward. If using a microfiber cloth works for you, then use a color that you have dedicated to the toilet!

I’m going to be using a regular cloth today. The microfiber creates a shine that a paper towel can’t do! Start from the top of the toilet and work your way down. Once I get to the bowl, I will take the toilet bowl brush and scrub the interior of the bowl. I always wait to clean the rest of the toilet until after I do the bowl because it does splash sometimes and I don’t want to have to rewipe the same area twice. After the toilet bowl, I wipe the rest of the toilet and the bottom of the toilet until it’s shiny clean. Don’t forget the back area!

The last part on this side, is to fold the toilet paper into a point, because who doesn’t like that right?!

After that is a great time to disinfect any step stools that you have, disinfect the doorknob, and the light switch.

5| Clean the Bathroom Floor

Purpose: Who doesn’t like clean floors? That’s where everything is tracked throughout the house!

Before I clean the floor, I put the step stools on top of the toilet, along with the garbage can, so everything is out of the way. It’s so annoying to have to move things as you’re cleaning. So get it out of the way beforehand!

To clean the floors, I will vacuum first to pick up any dust or anything that’s fallen to the floor, then I will come in and mop with my Bona mop.

Last but not least, empty out the garbage can!

Phew! There you have it! A clean bathroom!

I hope this helped you see my process in which I clean so nothing is missed. The best part is that you’re not over-cleaning or doing the same thing multiple times. You’re being efficient with your time and energy when you clean this way.

Clean for you not for guests!
