I want to start this year off right…. with a declutter challenge!
I think accumulating clutter around the house is like gaining weight. It creeps up on you every so slowly and you don’t notice it until you’ve gained 20 pounds. Not only that, it’s so much easier to get things and bring them home than it is to get it out of here.
I recently watched the show Less is Now On Netflix, about how it’s a great time to become more minimalistic. How living with only meaningful things will help keep your mind clear and you’ll feel less overwhelmed. The two guys that created this show also have another one called Minimalism, which is more about how they became minimalists.
After watching these two documentaries, I kind of want to embrace minimalism a little bit more. I know that I feel better when I see clearer spaces. Clear counters, clear tables, clear floors, but with all the stuff that we have and use everyday, it feels like these clear spaces are few and far between.
So to embrace the new year, I’ve decided to make a change. Even though I’ll be starting off small, I know that it will eventually snowball. That’s what I’m hoping for anyway.
So, tell me, does it ever feel like your stuff is closing in around you?
Then this declutter challenge is for you!
Who knows you might even make some money doing it too?

MINDSET SHIFTS
There are a few things I think we have to understand and wrap our minds around before we start. I know I have trouble with these sometimes.
- You’ve already spent the money on the item. The money is already gone. If you toss out an item or donate it, it’s okay. It’s okay to not recoup the money. It would be nice, but it’s not mandatory.
- Once it’s in the box, it’s going out. No rifling through it later.
- Odds are, you won’t need it one day.
The first one is the hardest one for me, especially with items I know still have a lot of value. But, when I’m waiting to sell the items, they’re just sitting in a box in the closet just taking up space. It’s also a constant eyesore and reminder of all the things I’m getting rid of. I might end up going back through the darn box and pulling out things that I’m second thoughts on.
Let’s get to the declutter challenge!
So the rules of the challenge are simple: 1 thing out of your home per week.
You can choose to sell, donate, or just toss one item from your home a week. By the end of the year, you’ll have 52 items out of your home that was just taking up space!

I also created a declutter tracker to help keep track of all the items leaving the home. I’m going to color in the boxes and write down what item it was so I can remember everything that I got rid of!
Did I also mention that this printable is free?!
